.nuurhidayah.

Assalamualaikum.

I recall an incident that happened yesterday. In my school building, there is a designated area for Muslims to pray, somewhere at the top floor of the building. I was on my way to that place and as I reached there, I saw a person, ready to perform his solah, but since he saw me, then he waited. From his face, I can see that he is British.

I made a hand gesture indicating that I would like him to lead the solah as he seem a bit older than me. He then insisted me to lead and said, "I'm new. Please lead.". We then performed the solah.

This incident has brought me to think of my religion and it's followers. Those who are Muslims since birth and those who just became Muslims. Some (not all) of those who are Muslims since birth aren't really practicing the religion and sometimes those who just became Muslims are more knowing compared to those who are Muslims since birth.

A friend of mine shared this documentary about British Muslimat:

Firstly, age or duration of embracing Islam is not the main parameter of clarifying someone as a true Muslim.
Secondly, having a family or generations of religious background doesn't necessarily means that the upcoming generations of that particular family will remain as they are.

This reminded me of an ayah in the Holy Qur'an:

"Mankind was (of) one religion (before their deviation); then Allah sent prophets as bringers of good tiding and warners and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed. And none differed over the Scripture except those who were given it - after the clear proofs came to them - out of jealous animosity among themselves. And Allah guided those who believed to the truth concerning that over which they had differed, by His permission. And Allah guided whom He wills to a straight path." [2:213]

Wailalliqa' maassalamah.
